Business opportunities of the region

Welcome to the southern economic region

Favourable humid subtropical climate, availability of good arable land, water and sufficient labour resources of Lankaran region provide a good basis for agricultural activities as well as development of agro-processing enterprises. Dominating spheres in Lankaran economy are vegetable-growing, tea-growing, paddy cultivating, cattle-breeding, citrus plants, bee keeping, fishing, and grain farming.

At present tea plantations covering 996 hectare area, 5 tea factory specialized in initial processing of tea and 1 tea packaging factory operate in the region. With the capacity of 55 million m3 Khanbulanchay Water reservoir and irrigation networks function in the region in order to use the waters of the rivers for irrigation of tea plantations of great industrial importance. “Havzava”, “İstisu”, “Tukavila” production cooperatives and “İslam Tagızada” rural farm in the region are directly engaged in tea-growing. Aiming to achieve dynamic development in tea-cultivation sphere, establishment of tea nurseries, exemplary tea areas and investments into the sphere had already started in the region.  The investments made by “Azarsun Holdinq” and “Beta” companies group into tea-growing sphere is widely used to develop the sphere further. Meanwhile, more investments into tea-growing sphere is still needed to achieve more development in the sphere.

Citrus fruit growing  is the highly developing field in Lankaran.  Tangerine, orange, lemon, pheykhoa citrus plants and kiwi, kumquat, persimmon and other plants are cultivated in more than 3000 hectare private area of the region. Particulary, there is a need for expanding the sphere in foothills as well as establishment of modern type agro-processing enterprises to produce citrus fruit juices and jam in the region.

The Lankaran grounds are favorable for vegetable-production. The implementation of land reforms has speeded up the development in the agriculture. As the result of agrarian reforms implemented in Lankaran 15500 ha land area favorable for sowing had been distributed among 130700 citizens. Export potentialities providing production and export of early cabbiage of over 100.000 tone to Russian Federation and CIS every year are existing in the region.
The region maintains State Seed Department and Regional Experiment Station to support the grow of agricultural products through scientific basis.
"Chinar" and "Vita" firm, "İbrahim" KO-LLC, "Digah" LLC, "Sh-Mari", "Optimal", "Real", "Maz", "MQ", "Umman" enterpries functioning in the region are engaged with vegetable, fruit and citrus fruit-growing. They are specialized in producing tomato paste, canned cucumber, aerated water and other various kinds of products. Aside of being an exemplary enterprise involved in dairy production "Pal-Sud"  LLC, had speeded up the development of cattle-breeding as well.

Currently, more than 2000 private SME in the region render population useful services. The private sector share  in production of GDP is represented by 81,2 %.

Fascinating nature, rich flora and fauna, Caspian Sea, Hirkan National Park, Qizilagaj Preservation, Khanbulanchay Water Reservoir, historical monuments, tasty food and recently established Olimpic Sport Complex, Qala Hotel, Caucasus Seaside Hotel, Sea Port, and also “Khanbulan”, “Basharu”, “Palidli Sahil” locating in forest land and other such kind of relax centers open wide prospects for the development of tourism in the region. In addition, greate potentials in the shores of Caspian Sea, foothills of mountaneous areas, and Haftoni and İsti-su settlements where thermal and mineral water springs remeding numerous diseases are located promote potentials for the development of the ecotourism and construction of tourizm complex in Lankaran.
